Make sense of your problems and find ways to solve them

Counselling is a form of listening which enables a person to begin to make sense of their personal issues and to work out ways to resolve them.

As a fully qualified and trained counsellor, I am a non-judgemental, impartial but caring listener, who can help someone find a clear path through their jumble of feelings.
I will not try to tell you what to do and I can't resolve your issues for you, but I can certainly help you sort things out in your own mind and start to work your way through things. One of the ways I can do this is by providing somewhere calm, peaceful and accepting for you to sit quietly to think and to talk.

I can teach couples how to listen to one another and start to communicate on a deeper level. I am a fully qualified Relate trained psychosexual therapist, marital and relationship counsellor. Sometimes clients come to me because, sadly, a relationship is over. You may need help in explaining this to your partner, or you may need support while you come to terms with a relationship break up.

Sometimes clients need help in understanding and coming to terms with loss, whether it is through bereavement, redundancy, retirement or adapting to change, as transitions can be a difficult time. I can help with low self esteem and self development. Stress and anxiety are also part and parcel of today's busy and uncertain world and I can teach you some practical ways to cope better.

I use an integrative approach, combining the humanistic / person-centred belief that we all have the capacity and the desire to reach our full potential, with the psychodynamic idea that we are all shaped, to a large extent, by influences and experiences from our past. However, I also believe we have choices. We cannot change the past but we can make choices in the present which will shape our future. I use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Neuro-Linguistic Programming techniques to help clients bring about the changes they need to make their lives more fulfilling.

Areas of counselling I specialise in include:

  •     Coping with relationship break ups, divorce and separation
